Photo taken in Myanmar. Present but rare in Thailand ♂ 1300m a.s.l.

Laringa castelnaui is a rare and little known species occuring in the southern part of the SE Asia region. It is sexually dimorphic with the upperside of the male being almost totally blue and the female being mid-brown with darker and lighter markings. Detailed study of this beautiful species is much needed.

Regional Distribution: Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines
Habitat: Laringa castelnaui is found in montane forest and lowland rainforest at low to moderate elevations. Usually found below 900m a.s.l. but has been reported up to 1300m a.s.l.
Flight time: most of the year depending on location Wingspan: 40-50mm
Life History: not known
Larval Hosts: not known but probably from the Euphorbiaceae family
Adult Food Sources: Nectar - not known to nectar on flowers. Other - mud puddling (occasional)
