Argynnis childreni

Argynnis childreni is a rare species found only in the more northerly parts of the region. Little research appears to have been done and so little is known about this species. It is believed to be multivoltine but it is not known how many broods there are per year.

Regional Distribution:  India, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, China

Habitat:  Argynnis childreni is found in open montane forests and grassland, usually at moderate elevations. It has been recorded at up to 3500m a.s.l. in Nepal.

Flight time:  possibly summer months only                                       Wingspan:  75-85mm

Life History:   not known

Larval Hosts:  Buddleja asiatica (Scrophulariaceae), Mentha longifolia (Lamiaceae), Rubus niveus (Rosaceae), Viola diffusa, Viola pilosa (Violaceae)
Actual host plant used depends upon location and availabilty of plant species.

Adult Food Sources:  Nectar - Hedychium ellipticum (Zingiberaceae), Vanda cristata (Orchidaceae), Tagetes erecta (Asteraceae). There are likely to be more flower species that are visited but have yet to be recorded.  Other - mud puddling.
