A rare species found only in the more northerly parts of the region. Little research appears to have been done and so little is known about this species. Multivoltine but it is not known how many broods per year.

Taxonomy:  Animalia - Arthropoda - Insecta - Lepidoptera - Nymphalidae - Heliconiinae - Argynnis - childreni

Regional Distribution:  India, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam

Habitat:  open montane forests and grassland up to 3500m a.s.l.                               Wingspan:  75-85mm

Flight time:  most of the year except the coldest months, depending on location

Larval Hosts:  Buddleja asiatica (Scrophulariaceae), Mentha longifolia (Lamiaceae), Rubus niveus (Rosaceae), Viola diffusa, Viola pilosa (Violaceae).  Actual host plant used depends upon location and availabilty of plant species.

Adult Food Sources:  Nectar - Hedychium ellipticum (Zingiberaceae), Vanda cristata (Orchidaceae), Tagetes erecta (Asteraceae). There are likely to be more flower species that are visited but have yet to be recorded.  Other - mud puddling.
