Helcyra hemina
Photo taken in Myanmar. Very rare but can be seen in northern Thailand.

One of the rarer Apaturinae that is a protected species in some countries. There is very little information on this species and more research is needed.

Taxonomy:  Animalia - Arthropoda - Insecta - Lepidoptera - Nymphalidae - Apaturinae - Helcyra - hemina

Regional Distribution:  India, Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, China,  Indonesia

Habitat:  not known                        Wingspan:  50-60mm

Flight time:  most of the year depending on the location

Larval Hosts:  no confirmed sources but possibly Celtis sp. (Cannabaceae)

Adult Food Sources:  nectar sources not known. Other - mud puddling
