Mimathyma chevana

Although Mimathyma chevana is fairly widespread across most of the northern parts of the region, it is not common and little seems to be known about this species.

Synonyms & previously used names:   Apatura chevana, Apatura leechi

 

Taxonomy:  Animalia - Arthropoda - Insecta - Lepidoptera - Nymphalidae - Apaturinae - Mimathyma - chevana

Regional subspecies:   Mimathyma chevana chevana (E.Nepal, NE India, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Yunnan-China), Mimathyma chevana leechi (N.Vietnam)

Regional Distribution:  India, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, China

Habitat: Mimathyma chevana is found in open montane forest and has been recorded up to 1700m a.s.l.

Flight time:  not known but possibly only in Spring                       Wingspan:  55-65mm

Life History:   not known

Larval Hosts:  Ulmus davidiana, Ulmus parvifolia (Ulmaceae), Celtis sp. (Cannabaceae)

Adult Food Sources:  Nectar - not known to visit flowers. Other - mud puddling
