Herona marathus is one of the larger Apaturinae species. It often settles head down on tree trunks with its wings closed and can be difficult to spot. It is fairly widespread but is not common. This species is multivoltine with several generations each year. The larvae are rather unusual and look like they are wearing some sort of horned theatrical mask.
