Dichorragia nesimachus is widespread but not particularly common. Both sexes are similar in appearance but males can be quite variable and have extra blue markings on upper hindwings. Frequently rests on the underside of leaves with wings spread. It is a swift flyer and can be difficult to approach. Previously in the Cyrestinae sub-family but now reassigned to the Pseudergolinae.

Regional subspecies: Dichorragia nesimachus derdas (E.Malaysia, Kalimantan-Indonesia), Dichorragia nesimachus formosanus (Taiwan), Dichorragia nesimachus machates (S.Thailand, W.Malaysia, Sumatra-Indonesia), Dichorragia nesimachus mannus (Indonesia), Dichorragia nesimachus nesimachus (Bhutan, NE India, Myanmar, N.Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Yunnan-China). There is a large number of other subspecies listed amongst the different islands of Indonesia and the Philippines.
Regional Distribution: India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia
Habitat: Dichorragia nesimachus is found in dense tropical and evergreen montane forest. It has been recorded at elevations up to 2000m a.s.l.
Flight time: all year, depending on location Wingspan: 70-80mm
Life History: not known
Larval Hosts: Meliosma callicarpifolia, Meliosma fordii, Meliosma myriantha, Meliosma rhoifolia, Meliosma rigida, Meliosma simplicifolia, Meliosma squamulata, Meliosma tenuis (Sabiaceae).
Actual host plant used depends upon location and availabilty of plant species.
Adult Food Sources: Nectar - not known to visit flowers. Other - mud puddling, animal dung, oak tree sap, rotting fruit
