A rare species that, like many species in this subfamily, is usually seen individually and not in groups. Both sexes are similar but the female is slightly larger.

Synonyms and previously used names:    Prothoe calydonia, Nymphalis calydonia, Prothoe belisama, Agatasa belisama

Taxonomy:  Animalia - Arthropoda - Insecta - Lepidoptera - Nymphalidae - Charaxinae - Agatasa - calydonia

Regional subspecies:   A.c.auricinia (Indonesia), A.c.belisama (Myanmar, Thailand, Laos), A.c.calydonia (S.Thailand, Malaysia),  A.c.chrysodonia (Philippines)

Regional Distribution:  Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines

Habitat:  lowland and low elevation primary forest up to 900m a.s.l.                                Wingspan:  70-85mm

Flight time:  most of the year except maybe the coldest months, depending on location

Larval Hosts:  Artabotrys sp., Desmos chinensis (Annonaceae). There may be others that are not known about.

Adult Food Sources:  Nectar - not known to visit flowers. Other - mud puddling, animal dung, carrion, rotting fruit
