Agatasa calydonia is a rare and colourful species that, like many species in this subfamily, is usually seen individually and not in groups. It is found mostly in the more southerly parts of the region although it does appear less frequently as far north as southern China. Both sexes are similar in appearance but the female is slightly larger and less often seen. Adult feeding habits are slightly different. Whilst both sexes are fond of animal dung, males are attracted to carrion and females prefer rotting fruit. Both sexes mud puddle but females do so less often than males. More detailed studies of this species are needed.
