Polyura delphis

Polyura delphis is an uncommon species although quite widespread. It is most often seen when puddling but doesn't usually congregate with other species. It has a strong and rapid flight. Probably multivoltine but there is little information available and more research on this species is needed.

Regional subspecies:   Polyura delphis concha (S.Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Sumatra-Indoesia), Polyura delphis cygnus (Java-Indonesia), Polyura delphis delphinion (Kalimantan-Indonesia), Polyura delphis delphis (NE India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam), Polyura delphis niveus (Palawan-Philippines)

Regional Distribution:  India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines

Habitat:  Polyura delphis is found in primary rainforest and deciduous montane forest, usually at lower elevations up to 800m a.s.l.

Flight time:  likely much of the year excluding the coldest months    Wingspan:  60-75mm

Life History:     egg   4-5 days     total larva stage    18-26 days     pupa    12-17 days    Total egg to adult    34-48 days
All times are approximate and can vary depending on the season and on the host used.

Larval Hosts:  Archidendron jiringa, Senna tora, Wisteriopsis reticulata, Acacia sp. (Fabaceae)
Actual host plant used depends upon location and availabilty of plant species.

Adult Food Sources:  Nectar - not known to visit flowers. Other - mud puddling, animal dung & urine, carrion
