Polyura arja is fairly widespread across the northern part of the region. Both sexes are very similar in appearance. It has a strong and rapid flight. In the field it is very difficult to tell it apart from its sister species Polyura athamas. Further study is needed for this species.

Regional subspecies:    no subspecies

Regional Distribution:  India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, China

Habitat:  Polyura arja is found in both dense and open montane forest and has been recorded at elevations up to 2000m a.s.l.

Flight time:  most of the year, excluding the coldest months             Wingspan:  65-75mm

Life History:   not known

Larval Hosts:  Senegalia caesia (Fabaceae), Tectona grandis (Lamiaceae), Ficus microcarpa (Moraceae). There may be others not yet recorded.

Adult Food Sources:  Nectar - not known to visit flowers. Other - mud puddling, animal dung, carrion, over-ripe fruit, plant sap
