Athyma opalina

Distribution is confined to the northern part of the region. The sexes are visually similar  but the female is larger and darker in colour. Multivoltine but not known how many  broods per annum. Not much is known about this species and further study is needed.

Synonyms and previously used names:    Lebadea austenia, Limenitis austenia

Taxonomy:  Animalia - Arthropoda - Insecta - Lepidoptera - Nymphalidae - Limenitidinae - Bhagadatta - austenia

Regional Distribution:  India, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, China

Habitat:  montane forest, up to 1700m a.s.l.                                              Wingspan:  50-65mm

Flight time:  a large part of the year except the coldest months

Larval Hosts:  Mammea siamensis (Calophyllaceae).  There may be other plant species that are used as hosts which have not yet been recorded.

Adult Food Sources:  Nectar - not known if they visit flowers for nectar.  Other - mud puddling, animal droppings, rotten fruits
