Pantoporia hordonia
Photo taken at Lamnamkok National Park, Chiang Rai, Thailand. 740m a.s.l.

This species is widely distributed across the whole of the region and is common in most localities. Both sexes look the same and there are only a few minor differences in appearance between male and female. Pantoporia hordonia is a rather weak flyer and usually stays fairly low, settling frequently on the ground or low vegetation. It is a very nervous butterfly and is easily disturbed.

There are several other species that have similar markings on the upperside of the wings but this species is easily identified by it's underwing markings, which are very different as the colours are somewhat diffused. It is multivoltine with several broods per annum. The adult female lays her eggs singly on either surface of a leaf on the host plant. The newly hatched larvae eat their eggshells as a first meal.
