Neptis ananta

Limited to the more northern parts of the region. It is not sexually dimorphic and the sexes look similar to each other. It has a fast and powerful flight. Unfortunately there is very little information available about seasonality, life history, or number of broods per annum.

Taxonomy:  Animalia - Arthropoda - Insecta - Lepidoptera - Nymphalidae - Limenitidinae - Neptis - ananta

Regional Distribution:  India, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, China

Habitat:  montane forest, usually at altitudes between 1000-2600m a.s.l.                      Wingspan:  45-60mm

Flight time:  not enough information available but possibly March to October

Larval Hosts:  Phoebe formosana (Lauraceae), Celtis sp. (Ulmaceae).  There may be other plant species that are also used.

Adult Food Sources:  Nectar - Dendrobium candidum, Pleione hookeriana, Vanda cristata (Orchidaceae), Fragaria nubicola (Rosaceae), Rhododendron grande (Ericaceae).  Other - mud puddling
